Happy Valentine's Day
02/14/03

Happy Valentine’s Day! Right up front, here’s your Mac Maineiac homework for today: Get off that computer and spend today with your sweetie! There’s nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow! If you don’t have a sweetie, treat yourself to something fun and indulgent. ‘Nuff said. This is not THAT kind of advice column.

Big news! This column and my articles are now appearing on the Times Record website, in the Features section. As if that isn’t enough, I have opened a web site, named, appropriately, www.macmaineiac.com. There you’ll find an archive of all the columns and articles, as well as links to other resources and ramblings. From this day forth, please address emails to me at: petez@macmaineiac.com. I still very much encourage you to email me with questions, comments, problems. We’re gonna have fun with this new site!

Other news: Apple has posted an update to the Safari web browser, available from the Apple web site or through your Software Update control panel if you’re using OSX. TiVo, makers of the TV recording device, has announced that they are working with Apple to completely integrate their upcoming TiVo Series2 with Mac OS 10.2 (Jaguar). More on that as it develops.

Price cuts and speed bumps. Apple recently dropped prices, dramatically in some product lines. The 23” HD Cinema Display, once $3500, is now $2000. They added a new 20” Cinema Display at $1299, and dropped the 17” from $999 to $699. They also bumped the 17” iMac chip speed to 1 Ghz, while dropping the price $200.

Apple’s been very busy this year – upgrading the iLife applications, introducing the 12” and 17” Powerbooks, upgrading the PowerMac and iMac lines. The one remaining upgrade is to the 15” PowerBook, and that should come soon, making it a great time to upgrade to a new system.

Have a great weekend. Thanks again for your support. As always, Semper Mac!
